Soarano Train Station
Madagascar Estates Development Partners (“MEDP”) has completed the restoration and development of the Soarano Train Station in Antananarivo, a national monument, into a mixed use development. The project involved the restoration and development of the 2-storey Soarano station in an upscale commercial and business centre with retail shopping on the ground and first floor office space. It is a first-of-its-kind project in Madagascar.
Tenants at Soarano Station enjoy unique access to the shopping and restaurants of Avenue de l’Independence. Overall, MEDP takes great pride in this redevelopment of Soarano Station as a Madagascar monument.
The objectives of the project included:
1. To preserve and develop a monument of architectural heritage; and
2. To offer a new commercial and cultural space in the heart of the city of Antananarivo.
The re-development program comprised of three primary aspects:
1. Restoration of the principal building and redeployment of a total lettable area of 1,321.4 sqm in three primary offers:
- Ground Floor – Retail space of approximately 364.63 sqm
- First Floor – Office Space of approximately 596.97 sqm (single tenant) or 461.91 sqm (several tenants)
- The station platform which will be used as an open terrace for a restaurant or to accommodate cultural events as well as temporary exhibitions.
2. The extension of the Station. This extension has a total lettable area of 350.59 sqm consisting of a Ground Floor restaurant area of 195.66 sqm and First Floor event area of 154.93 sqm.
3. Retrofitting of existing gardens and building of a new carpark.
